Backtracking

Greetings from Sioux Falls South Dakota
We arrived in a back track sorty of way
We'd left Minnesota traveling south to Iowa
believing we'd be heading towards Nebraska
The door shut loudly in that direction and we traveled north through Iowa
on a different highway
and stopped at the Little Brown Church

It was a long drive through corn-rich country
green ocean farmland
I respect farmers because they feed us
Literally!

I had an opportunity to see an Amish buggy parked in front of a store
and realized everybody had to go to the store
I'm learning so much about America through this journey
When it all comes down to it each of us has something to give to each other

As I write this & look out of our hotel room
I read an ad-plastered building's new edition
"Diversity is Reality. Face it. Embrace it."
The face of a sad-eyed young brown-skinned boy looks at me
and I ask my self what that word could mean to each of us who
goes to the store in a buggy
farms massive tracts of land
drives across America
backtracking
wanting to get on the right road
