Time Flies When...

It's been three days and it feels like three weeks. We've been on the road for 4 weeks and it feels like four years. I'm beginning to ask, "Was that last year?" So, we stopped here in Denver to take care of us - a much needed halt to our filming schedule. It's blazing glory!

I'm beginning to wonder what it is about our question, "Where can I find God here?" that scares people? I mean, it's only a question but the reactions are mixed at best. There are more people who want to talk with us off camera than on camera. And so, we learn that documenting answers on paper is also useful.

Documenting the atheist and the legalist and the person who wants to start their own religion. Amazing. Here's a question. Does anyone think it odd that when Jesus lived among humankind people ran to find him and today people run in the opposite direction of those who say they represent him? Just a question.

The last three days have been contemplative and heart provoking because I am learning to see to the soul of a place. To feel its pain. It was like that today, July 4, at Littleton CO - the home of Columbine High School. Angela cried as we drove towards the school. I stood behind the camera, dry-eyed, remembering the violence of youth and I did not have any answer to my "Why?"

It's easy to throw bible verses and the name of Jesus at a thing. It's much harder to live what those verses teach - what Jesus taught. Again I ask, "Who will sit at the table with me?"

Reconciliation looks good on paper (magazine articles, newspapers, books) but I think it's ugly in real life. People get hurt and angry and defensive; and, it's damned inconvenient. After all that, then there can be a move towards reconciliation. Until then, it's fodder for cocktail parties and church gatherings.

My head hurts.
It's time to travel to the next destination - the heartland. It's that part of our country which grows or raises some of the food we eat.
